Garcia Hernández Sawhney, LLP is proud to announce Leah Smith’s promotion to Partner. Ms. Smith joined the firm’s San Francisco Bay area office in February 2013. She has worked with the firm’s school district clients on a variety of complex matters and has developed substantial expertise in all matters relating to student issues, including special education matters.

Leah Smith practices general education law, with a focus on advising our K-12 school district clients on special education and student discipline/student services. She also provides guidance to clients on personnel investigations and discipline, HR matters, sexual harassment and Title IX compliance, FERPA and student data privacy, EEOC and OCR investigations, charter school issues (including charter petitions and facilities), education policy, and Public Records Act requests.. She is a graduate of William & Mary School of Law and the University of California at Berkeley.
In addition to her professional achievements, Leah is actively involved in her community and various professional organizations, including her local church and MOPS group and serving as a volunteer birth doula.
Leah is a native of Sonoma County and currently resides in Windsor with her family and yellow Labrador retriever.
