Garcia, Hernández, Sawhney & Bermudez founding partner Mary Hernández moderated a cutting edge workshop at the National School Board Members Association’s annual conference in San Diego. The workshop, “Serving Transgender Students: Avoiding Liability and Ensuring a Safe and Positive Learning Environment for All”, featured Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Steve Zimmer, LAUSD administrator Judy Chiasson and California Rural Legal Assistance Program Director, Dan Torres.
The panel provided information on transgender students, issues that school employees should be prepared to address, the latest legal cases covering transgender individuals under Title VII and Title IX, best practices and strategic approaches for working effectively with families and stakeholders.
Ms. Hernandez regularly provides trainings to school district administrators and employees on a host of related issues such as bullying and student discipline, Seth’s Law, Title IX and sexual harassment prevention.
