Garcia, Hernandez, Sawhney & Bermudez, LLP Attorney Lawrence Joe co-chaired the 2014 OCA National Convention in Los Angeles. In its 41st edition, the OCA National Convention met to honor leaders in the Asian Pacific American (APA) community and promote advocacy among APA’s.
The theme for the OCA Convention this year was “On Location for Advocacy”. This was also the first time that Los Angeles hosted the Convention in 20 years. The Convention was attended by over 600 Asian Pacific American leaders from across the country and featured lots of informative, free workshops for youth, college, and professionals on a range of topics. The event culminated with a Gala event, honoring Tyrus Wong (Disney illustrator for “Bambi”), actress Ming-Na Wen (“The Joy Luck Club,” “Mulan,” “Agends of S.H.I.E.L.D”), and actor Daniel Dae Kim (“Lost,” “Hawaii 5-0”) with the Pioneer Awards and California Congresswoman Judy Chu and actor James Hong (“Blade Runner,” “Kung Fu Panda”) with the Outstanding Citizen Achievement Awards.
