Lise Kirsten Ström is a Senior Counsel in Garcia Hernández Sawhney, LLP’s San Francisco Bay Area office. Lise is a member of the firm’s Education Law practice group. Lise has extensive expertise in Title IX legal and compliance issues.

Prior to joining the firm, Lise served as an Equity Compliance Officer, Title IX Coordinator, and Uniform Complaint Coordinator for the Santa Clara Unified School District. In that position, she handled sexual misconduct and UCP complaints across 29 campuses, serving 15,000 students and 2,800 employees. Lise led approximately 50 Title IX and Uniform Complaint investigations annually, coordinated responses to sexual misconduct and discrimination complaints, and collaborated with key district departments to ensure compliance and support.

During her legal career, Lise developed expertise in regulatory work, telecommunications law, and commercial litigation. She’s had the opportunity to practice before the federal and state communications commissions. Lise also has substantial experience negotiating agreements and advising clients on corporate and transactional matters.

Lise interest in and commitment to education led her to take a break from her legal career for a few years to serve as a teacher, instructional coach and, eventually, as Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, and Assistant Principal at various school districts.

Lise holds a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. in Language and Culture (French and Russian) from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a certified Title IX Coordinator and Investigator and an active member of several professional associations, including the California State Bar Association and the Association of California School Administrators.
