Ms. Katina Ancar serves as Of Counsel in Garcia Hernndez Sawhney, LLP’s Education Law practice group, focusing on higher education and data privacy matters. Katina is also the Principal and Founder of Kanopy Law, a policyholder insurance recovery and higher education law firm.

Prior to founding her own law firm, Katina served as Principal Counsel in the University of California’s Office of the General Counsel and Chief Counsel for the University’s ANR Division, offering strategic advice to executive leadership, and practicing in a multitude of areas – including tuition and fees, student disability accommodations, business transactions, employment, and housing. Previously, she worked at Farella Braun + Martel representing insurance policyholders and also spent several years working as a Staff Attorney and Skadden Fellow with the National Center for Youth Law focusing on civil rights advice and litigation on behalf of foster youth. Immediately after law school, and before starting her Skadden fellowship, Katina served as a Judicial Law Clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston.
