Ms. Janet Ly is a Partner in Garcia Hernandez Sawhney, LLP’s Los Angeles office. Janet is an experienced litigator who provides general counsel services to both private and public sector employers.

In her capacity as general counsel, a significant portion of her practice is devoted to providing preventive legal counseling on litigation, board governance and labor and employment matters, including assisting clients in finding effective solutions to employer-employee conflicts, advising employers on compliance with state and federal labor and employment laws, representing management in labor negotiations and collective bargaining, and assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and policies.

Janet also has extensive experience in labor and employment litigation and various business disputes, including breach of contract, high stakes business torts, wage and hour claims, reasonable accommodations, wrongful terminations, reductions in force, separation/severance agreements, discrimination, retaliation, and unfair labor practice charges. Janet has significant experience appearing and arguing before the courts in jury trials, governmental agency proceedings, and arbitrations.

In addition, Janet is a seasoned workplace and Title IX investigator. She is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI) and is an AWI Investigators Certificate Holder (AWI-CH). She advises her clients on complex internal investigations involving employee misconduct, sexual harassment, hostile work environment, Title IX issues and compliance with non-discrimination statutes.

Janet received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her law degree from Boston College School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, Janet served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court, assisting the Justices in all phases of civil litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Janet worked at one of the largest international law firm in Taiwan, using her bilingual skills to effectively work on complex commercial disputes between Chinese and foreign entities.

Janet is fluent in Chinese. She is also committed in serving the community, including sitting on the board for OCA-Greater Los Angeles and mentoring at-risk youths.

Janet is admitted to practice in the courts of California and Massachusetts.
