Nitasha Sawhney Speaks at White House Commemoration of Guru Nanak Gurpurab

November 20, 2013– Partner Nitasha Sawhney spoke at the White House Commemoration of the birth of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. Ms. Sawhney is the Board Co-Chair of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) and a commissioner of the California Commission on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs. She was one of four Sikh community leaders invited to speak at the event, other speakers included Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Grande Lum, Director of the Community Relations Service for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ms. Sawhney is active in several local and national civil rights organizations, including the Sikh Coalition and the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF). In 2011 she was awarded the Asian Pacific Island Heritage Award for Excellence in Civil Rights from the California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.

Ms. Sawhney advises public and private employers on employment and labor issues including strategic planning, employee discipline and termination, sexual harassment/discrimination claims and prevention, and labor negotiations.
